Trust

Tara and I were traveling down the interstate the other day in a section we had traveled before. We knew where we were going and how to get there, but we used the GPS just in case. We stopped at a gas station to get gas and started to get back on the interstate when Tara said the GPS is taking us a different way. Instead of being on the interstate a while and going the way we know, we were going to get off the interstate in about six miles. I think the first thing I said was, “Why?” Tara said she did not know why but guessed it was traffic. We debated it for a minute and decided the GPS knew best. That is why we have it on, to help us see what we can not see. So we got off on an unfamiliar exit and started heading in what I thought was the wrong direction. So I checked again to see if this was right. Tara said the GPS had us taking a turn in a few miles that would be sending us in the right direction. So I kept driving and thought, “Do I trust my GPS more than I trust God?”
You may be asking how I got to that question. My thought is, how often am I traveling along in life, in a place that seems familiar to me, when God’s word says to go in a different direction. I protest. I have been this way before; I know where I am going and how to get there. I have done this a million times. So I keep going with what I feel comfortable with. Maybe I make the turn with hesitation, and when I think I am heading in the wrong direction, I turn around and go back to what I understand. I trusted the GPS and wound up where I was suppose to be. If I will learn to trust God and follow Him, I will end up where I want to be (Proverbs 3:5-7). Do you trust your GPS more than you trust God?
